The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks hit the road to Petrolia on Friday night and were handed a 6-2 loss by the Petrolia Squires.
The Winterhawks found themselves down one in the first period, with James Edgar and Rob Vanwynsberghe scoring for Petrolia, while Blake Underwood replied for the Winterhawks, with assists to James McHaig and Trent Hawke.
Davis Boyer would add to the Squires lead in the 2nd period, making it 3-1 for Petrolia, the lone marker of the period, despite power plays for both teams.
The Winterhawks would press to get back in the game in the 3rd, but the Squires put it away, as Vanwynsberghe added his second of the night on the powerplay at 9:26, followed by a pair of late goals, first by Dan Veenema, followed by Adam Arsenault, 43 seconds apart.
Miles MacLean would add one with 32 seconds left to make it a 6-2 final, with assists to Connor Patton and Shelby Simmons.
Jeff Flagler took the loss in goal, making 34 saves on the night, while Petrolia netminder Brandon Campbell made 32 saves.
The Winterhawks are back in action this Friday night, December 8th, when the Shelburne Muskies visit The Plex. Game time is 8:30 p.m.
