Hawks Win in Shallow Lake
The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks completed a two-win weekend as they defeated the Shallow Lake Crushers by a score of 5-2 on Saturday night.

Josh Hopkin opened the scoring for Saugeen Shores at 5:58 of the 1st period, beating Shallow Lake netminder Allan Manary, with assists to Miles MacLean and Matt Shields.

Eric Peicheff got the start in the Winterhawks net and turned aside seven shots in the opening frame to keep the score at 1-0 through 20 minutes.

Trent Hawke notched his first goal of the year at 3:31 of the 2nd period, with Theo Peckham assisting to give the Winterhawks a 2-0 lead.

Peckham added to the lead with a goal of his own at 13:29 of the 2nd, with assists to Hawke and Andy Mitchell, but Shallow Lake's Daniel Zweep answered back just over a minute later to cut the Winterhawks lead to 3-1.

Not to be outdone, Hawke responded in-kind, with an unassisted marker just 1:05 later to give Saugeen Shores a 4-1 lead.

The Winterhawks were not done, as MacLean made it a 5-1 lead with 57-seconds remaining in the middle frame, with assists to Shields and Brent MacDermid.

Zweep managed to cut the Winterhawks lead to 5-2 midway through the 3rd period, but that's all the Crushers could muster up, as Peicheff made 26 saves for the win in goal.

The win improves the Winterhawks to 4-0-0 on the season, in a tie with the also-perfect Shelburne Muskies for 1st place in the WOAA Sr. Hockey League standings.

The Winterhawks return home this Friday night, October 25th, as they face off against the Petrolia Squires (1-2-0). Game time at The Plex is 8:30 p.m.
