Hawks Drop Game 2
The long ride to Tillsonburg did not bear fruit on Saturday night.
The Tillsonburg Thunder took a 6-2 decision over the visiting Winterhawks, taking a 2-0 series lead in the process.
Tillsonburg took a 1-0 lead at 13:21 on a power play goal by Mike Rebry, a lead they would hold after one, despite the Winterhawks outshooting Tillsonburg 15-8 in the opening frame.
The Winterhawks were whistled for a penalty early in the 2nd period and for the second time in as many games, Tillsonburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead, this time on a power play goal by Brendan Barletta.
The first power play of the game for the Winterhawks immediately followed and Andy Mitchell got them on the board with a power play marker at 3:43, with assists to Miles MacLean and Lauchlin Elder.
Tillsonburg re-established the two-goal lead at 7:37 of the 2nd, but a slew of Thunder penalties followed, giving the Winterhawks extended power play time.
Trevor Smith got the Winterhawks to within one on the power play at 15:59, with assists to MacLean and Elder.
Tillsonburg once again struck early to open the 3rd period, with Braden Roberts making it a 4-2 game 1:32 into the 3rd.
The Winterhawks picked up a power play at the midway point of the 3rd, but surrendered a shorthanded goal to make it a 5-2 game.
Tillsonburg added a late empty netter to arrive at a 6-2 final.
Game 3 in the series goes this Friday night, February 14th, at The Plex at 8:30 p.m.
