Winterhawks Dominate Creemore
Trent Hawke scored a hat trick and Josh Deyell notched four points as the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks beat up on the visiting Creemore Coyotes by a 10-3 score
The goals came early and often as Mike Smailes opened the scoring at 5:49 of the first period when Bill Monkman carried the puck into the Creemore zone, circling out from behind the net and feeding Smailes, who sent a low shot past Creemore goalie Adam Redgate.
Captain Trevor Smith followed up just over two minutes later when he stepped around a Creemore defender and fired a shot past Redgate to make it 2-0.
Hawks starter Eric Peicheff wasn't over busy, but was called upon early to make several saves to keep Creemore off the board.
A high-sticking double minor gave the Winterhawks a four-minute power play and Hawke blew the game wide open with two during the man-advantage, scoring two goals 1:41 apart to make it a 4-0 Winterhawks lead.
Creemore got one back 20 seconds later when Kevin Boyd banked one in off the Winterhawks defender's skate and past Peicheff to cut the lead to 4-1.
Jay Thomson scored his first of two on the night to restore the four goal lead and give the Winterhawks a 5-1 lead after one period.
The onslaught continued in the second period, with the Winterhawks forcing a turnover at the Creemore blueline just moments into the middle frame.
Miles MacLean jumped on the loose puck and fired it over Redgate's shoulder to make it a 6-1 game.
Creemore cut the lead to 6-2, but another pair of power play goals, first by Deyell, then from Thomson made it an 8-2 lead for Saugeen Shores.
Hawke completed the hat-trick at 14:34 of the second, firing a breakaway opportunity past the glove of Coyotes backup netminder Brendan Macham.
Creemore made it a 9-3 game midway through the third period, but Brock Pinnell capped the scoring with his first goal as a Winterhawks, scoring a shorthanded marker to make it a 10-3 final.
Peicheff made 26 saves for the win in goal, while Deyell was named the Wismer House Player of the Game, with one goal and three assists.
The boys still have one more to play this weekend, heading out on the road on Saturday night for a match up with Bruce County rivals, the Ripley Wolves.

The Winterhawks signed centre Jordan Van Haelemeesch earlier this week, and he made his debut wearing #21. The 24-year old Port Elgin native last played with the Kincardine Bulldogs in 2016/17.
