Eric Peicheff was perfect and Andy Mitchell had a hat-trick as the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks cruised to an 8-0 win in Shallow Lake on Friday night.
Mitchell opened the scoring early in the first period, driving toward the Shallow Lake net and beating Crushers netminder Ryan Winter at 1:22 to make it 1-0 for the visitors.
Peicheff made several saves throughout the remainder of the period, but the Crushers couldn't get anything past him and the score remained 1-0 after 20 minutes.
The Winterhawks came out with authority in the second period and put the game away.
Jordan Vanhaelemeesch picked up the puck off a faceoff and put it toward the Shallow Lake net, where Michael Johnstone corralled the rebound and shoveled it past Winter to make it 2-0 Winterhawks at 1:51 of the second period.
The Winterhawks continued to control the play throughout the period and it felt like only a matter of time before more goals came.
As the Winterhawks worked the puck down in the Crushers zone, Josh Deyell was able to knock down a Shallow Lake clearing attempt onto the stick of Miles MacLean, who turned and wired a laser beam under the bar to make it 3-0 Winterhawks at 9:22.
Mitchell followed it up with his second of the night 20 seconds later to extend the Winterhawks lead to 4-0.
They weren't done yet in the middle frame, as Brock Pinnell got in on it at 17:46 with an unassisted marker when he one-timed a Shallow Lake clearing attempt past Winter to give the Winterhawks a 5-0 lead after two periods.
MacLean added his second of the night early in the third period when he tipped in a Kevin McCallion shot to make it 6-0, followed by Mitchell completing the hat-trick to make it 7-0.
Jamie Shoemaker finished off the scoring with five minutes to play to make it 8-0, while Peicheff held the door shut despite some last minute chances from Shallow Lake.
The Winterhawks improved to 3-1-1 on the season with their third-straight win and will be in Shelburne tonight [Saturday] to face the Muskies at 8:00 p.m.
