Winterhawks Cruise to Win in Lucknow
The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks took control early and gave themselves plenty of breathing room on Saturday night.

Seven different Winterhawks scored en route to a 7-4 road victory over the Lucknow Lancers.

Curtis Johnston scored less than three minutes into the game, his first of a three-point night, from Logan Freiburger and Mike Fiegehen.

Justin Donnelly added to the lead at 6:44, from Chad Jones, followed by Medric Mercier at 12:41 from Luke Pither and Andy Mitchell to give the Winterhawks a 3-0 lead after one period.

The Winterhawks kept the pedal down in the second period, adding four more goals.

Miles MacLean scored 1:48 into the middle frame, from Matt Shields and Mitchell to make it 4-0.

Shields made it 5-0 from Johnston and Justin Marlowe at 10:56, then Mitchell from Freiburger and Shields at 14:13 to make it 6-0 for the visitors.

Lucknow got on the board with a shorthanded goal at 16:29, but the Winterhawks answered back 24-seconds later on a power play goal by Andy Fracz, from Justin Donelly and Johnston to put the Winterhawks up 7-1.

The Lancers made the score more respectable in the third period, including a pair of goals from former Winterhawk Mike Johnstone to make it a 7-4 final.

Clayton Fritsch picked up the win in the Winterhawks net, while the Winterhawks outshot Lucknow 50-24.

The win improves the Winterhawks record to 7-3-0 as they reach the midway point of the Ontario Elite Hockey League season.

They currently sit in second place in the OEHL standings, three points behind the first place Ripley Wolves.

After playing seven of their past eight games on the road, the Winterhawks return home this Friday night, December 1st, when they host the Minto 81's at The Plex.

Game time is 8:30 p.m.
