It was a forgettable start to the 2024-25 Ontario Elite Hockey League season for the Winterhawks.
An understaffed Winterhawks squad dropped a 7-3 decision in Seaforth Saturday night.
The Winterhawks came out guns-a-blazing early on, peppering the Seaforth net with shots. Luke Pither opened the scoring from Curtis Johnston and Miles MacLean just 3:37 into the game.
Johnston added one on the power play from Mike Johnstone and Andy Fracz less than two minutes later and the visitors found themselves up 2-0 early in enemy territory.
With only three defencemen available for the game, a few forwards were asked to fill in on the blueline, and did so admirably.
Seaforth returned the volley with a pair of goals of their own to knot the game at 2-2 after one period.
The Centenaires pulled away midway through the second period with three goals in five minutes to take a 5-2 lead.
Pither's second of the night from Brent MacDermid made it a 5-3 game late in the second, but Seaforth converted on a Winterhawks penalty in the final minute to restore their three-goal lead.
Seaforth added one more on the power play in the third period to make it a 7-3 final.
The focus now turns to the Outlaw Brew Home Opener on Friday night, October 11th at The Plex against the Durham Thundercats at 8:30 p.m.
The game will feature the home debut of new Head Coach Nathan Perrott, as well as the introduction of the third captain in the history of the Winterhawks.
Season tickets are $125 each, which includes admission to all Winterhawks home games, including playoffs, reserved seating at The Plex and access to the NEW VIP bar, which will be located at the south end of the seating area.
The bar offers a great view of the entire rink, especially the south end, where the Winterhawks shoot twice.
Season tickets can be purchased
online or in-person at Gord's Pro Shop @ The Plex during regular business hours and at the door prior to the home opener.
Single game tickets are $10 for adult admission at all OEHL regular season games this season.
Please note - due to the Town of Saugeen Shores municipal office temporary location in Rotary Hall at The Plex, the following changes are in place until further notice:
- The Hawks Nest bar will be open in the east half of Rotary Hall, due to the reduced capacity, fans are asked to return to the seats as soon as they have their beverage in order to reduce congestion.
- The sound booth is off limits to the public. Any message or requests for the sound booth are to be left at Gord's Pro Shop.
The Winterhawks and Special Olympics Saugeen Shores are excited to announce a new partnership. Our Special Olympians will be taking over program sales at Winterhawks games this season, with 100% of the profits going directly to our local Special Olympics athletes.
