Winterhawks Rout Lucknow
Josh Deyell recorded a goal and three assists as the Winterhawks cruised to a 9-2 road victory over the Lucknow Lancers on Sunday afternoon.

The Winterhawks thoroughly dominated the winless Lancers, leaving little doubt from the beginning as to the outcome of the game.

The Lucknow goalie held off the Winterhawks attack early on, but the Lancers got into significant penalty trouble midway through the first period, first whistled for a double-minor, then two subsequent minor penalties in just over two minutes.

The Winterhawks used the power play time to jump out to a 2-0 lead, first Theo Peckham from Deyell and Curtis Johnston, then Justin Donnelly from Medric Mercier and Luke Pither just 14-seconds later.

Captain Miles MacLean returned from a significant injury, suiting up for the first time since the home opener, and made his return count, scoring to make it 3-0 to cap off the first period, from Donnelly and Cam Lightfoot.

The Winterhawks made it a laugher in the second period, first with Mike Fiegehen scoring Deyell and Clayton Fritsch, then Justin Marlowe scoring 22-seconds later from Keegan Angel and Trent Hawke to make it 5-0 Winterhawks.

Lucknow got on the board, but Deyell answered back from Pither, and then Johnston from Deyell to give the Winterhawks a 7-1 lead after two periods.

Fiegehen extended the lead to 8-1 early in the third from Donnelly and Johnston, with Lucknow answering back shortly after.

Matt Shields capped off the scoring late in the third period from Brent MacDermid and MacLean to make it a 9-2 final score.

Fritsch hardly broke a sweat, only required to stop 14 shots to pick up the win in the Winterhawks net.

Deyell finished the game with four points, and added several of his patented crushing body checks for good measure.

With a much healthier lineup, the Winterhawks have won three games in a row as they return home to The Plex this Friday night, December 20th.

It will be a vital game for playoff positioning as the Georgian Bay Applekings come to town, with an earlier start time, this one getting underway at 7:30 p.m.
