Comeback Hawks Do It Again
For the second-straight night, the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks proved no deficit is too great.

Josh Deyell had a four-point game as the Winterhawks climbed out of a 3-0 hole to take a 5-4 road win over the Creemore Coyotes on Saturday night.

Unlike the previous night, the Winterhawks came out strong in the first period, but Creemore goalie Mason Kameka was having none of it, turning aside no fewer than 26 Winterhawks shots in the opening frame.

Creemore got on the board at 8:07 when the Winterhawks took a too-many-men penalty and the Coyotes struck quickly for a power play goal.

The Coyotes added two goals 20-seconds apart late in the period and once again, the Winterhawks had a 3-0 deficit to tackle after the first period.

Deyell got the comeback started at 12:33 of the second when he unleashed a shot from the point to get the Winterhawks on the board, with Logan Freiburger assisting.

Creemore got themselves into all kinds of penalty trouble late in the second period, and the Winterhawks made them pay.

Deyell added his second of the game with another bomb from the point, this time on a five-on-three advantage to get the Winterhawks to within one at 15:29, with Andy Mitchell assisting.

The Creemore penalties carried over into the third period, and Curtis Johnston pulled the Winterhawks even just 40-seconds into the third, with Deyell and Mitchell picking up assists on the tying goal.

The Winterhawks power play continues to make teams pay for taking penalties, as Andy Fracz put the Winterhawks ahead on the power play from Deyell and Mike Fiegehen at 9:43, but Creemore answered right back to make it a 4-4 game heading into the late stages of the contest.

Freiburger proved the old hockey adage that there's no such thing as a bad shot on goal, as he scored the game winning goal when caught Kameka off guard with a quick shot, putting the Winterhawks ahead for good at 14:51, from Justin Marlowe and Eric Peicheff.

Peicheff had an excellent night in the Winterhawks net, shutting the door from there, holding off the Coyotes when they pulled the goalie and picked up a power play in the final minute of the game.

The Winterhawks held on for the 5-4 win, with Peicheff making 45 saves for the victory.

After taking time to enjoy the holidays, the Winterhawks will take their five-game winning streak into a return match with the Coyotes, who will visit The Plex this Friday night, December 27th, for another early 7:30 p.m. start time.

It's the Winterhawks third annual Minor Hockey Night, sponsored by the Climate Clinic, with Saugeen Shores Storm teams invited to come to the game as a team and show us how loud and proud they can cheer. The team chosen for the best displays of team spirit will win a practice with Winterhawks players.

The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks players and executive wish all our fans a wonderful Christmas and happy holidays.
