Winterhawks Go Local to Start 2025-26
The Winterhawks are boosting their roster with local signings to start the 2025-26 season.

On defence, Port Elgin's Rob White, Southampton's Wyatt McNabb and Wiarton's Jasper Akiwenzie join the blueline, which sees some turnover from last season. Chad Jones, Josh Urbshott and Caleb Morrison return, while Mike Johnstone is expected to play as a defenceman this season.

Up front, Port Elgin's Trevor Donaldson and Southampton's Spencer Sutter join a forward group that includes a solid number of returning players. Re-signed are Captain Miles MacLean, Luke Pither, Andy Mitchell, Justin Donnelly, Justin Marlowe, Logan Freiburger, Andy Fracz, Keegan Angel, Cam Lightfoot and Mike Fiegehen.

Winterhawks all-time leading scorer Brent MacDermid returns for his 15th season in Winterhawks blue, while Curtis Johnston is back for his 16th season.

In goal, all four goalies are returning, lead by 2025 playoff MVP Clayton Fritsch, along with Eric Peicheff, Tristan Lewis and Ty Jackman.

Further signings of new and returning players are possible throughout the season.

The Winterhawks hit the ice this Friday night, October 3rd, at The Plex as they host the expansion Elmvale Harvesters, who boast a strong lineup in their inaugural season.

As always, the Home Opener is sponsored by Outlaw Brew Co. of Southampton.

Game time is 8:30 p.m., and we urge fans to plan ahead as parking is currently limited at The Plex as the construction of the aquatic centre nears completion.

Tickets are $10 for general admission, kids 12 & under are free with adult ticket purchase. Season tickets are on sale for $125, which includes admission to all regular season and playoff home games, as well as reserved seating at The Plex.
