Back & Forth Win over Creemore
The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks held on for a win over the Creemore Coyotes on a night where the goals came in bunches.

Although the Winterhawks took two blowout wins over Creemore on Nov. 7th and 8th, the Coyotes brought a much more competitive lineup to The Plex on Friday night.

Creemore opened the scoring at 12:14 on a power play goal that popped up in the air and fell in behind Winterhawks starter Eric Peicheff.

The Winterhawks answered back with a power play goal of their own just over a minute later, when Todd Hellyer's point shot snuck through traffic and found the back of the net. Brent MacDermid and Luke Pither assisted on the tying goal.

Creemore responded less than a minute later to restore their one-goal lead, which held through the first period.

The Winterhawks drew even again at 3:26 of the second when Mike Fiegehen carried the puck in on a two-on-one rush and fired a quick shot past the Coyotes netminder, with Matt Smallman and Hellyer assisting.

Creemore responded, again, this time at 5:24 to take the lead back, but the Winterhawks had an answer of their own just 45-seconds later.

Trevor Donaldson threw a big check in the Creemore zone and give the Winterhawks some extra energy. After some extended time in the Creemore zone, the puck ended up on the stick of Pither, who fired a cross-ice pass to James McHaig at the point.

McHaig's point shot was stopped, but Donaldson buried the rebound to tie the game at 3-3.

The Winterhawks took their first lead of the night, one they would not relinquish, two minutes later when Miles MacLean picked up the puck at the side of the net and buried it in the top corner for the goal. Spencer Sutter and Justin Donnelly assisted.

The Winterhawks held the precarious one-goal lead until late in the third period when Pither danced around the Creemore defence and deked out the goalie to extend the Winterhawks lead to 5-3 at 15:08 of the third.

Creemore got back to within one at 18:47 with the goalie pulled, but Pither responded back 23-seconds later with an empty net goal to seal the 6-4 win for the Winterhawks.

Pither was named The Wismer House Player of the Game with two goals and two assists, while Peicheff made 38 saves for the win.

The Winterhawks improved to 7-1-2 on the season with the win, and remain in first place in the Ontario Elite Hockey League's North Division.

They are back home next Friday night, November 28th, when the Shelburne Muskies visit The Plex. Game time is 8:30 p.m.
