Game 3 in Support of Hawke Family
The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks organization will support one of its own on Friday night.

The team will host a fundraiser for Winterhawks alumnus Trent Hawke, who was recently diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS)- a rare neurological disorder where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the nerves.

While the long-term prognosis of GBS is positive, "Hawker" faces months of rehabilitation at Brightshores Health System in Owen Sound, and will remain on medical leave from his job while he battles back.

Hawke, 34, played 132 games over 10 seasons for the Winterhawks. A prototypical power forward, he combined a bruising physical style with scoring touch. Hawke netted 59 goals and 129 points during his Winterhawks career, adding another 42 points in the playoffs before retiring at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season.

Away from the ice, Hawke is a devoted husband and father of two.

There will be a gate collection supporting the Hawke family during Game 3 of the Winterhawks McLean Trophy semi-final series against the Shelburne Muskies this Friday night, March 6th, beginning at 8:30 p.m. at The Plex.

A GoFundMe remains open and has already amassed more than $17,000 in donations.

All funds will go to the Hawke family to help alleviate the financial burden while Trent is off from work, and to help with any unforeseen medical expenses.
