Team Award Winners Announced
The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks have cancelled this summer's annual awards banquet.

The decision was made as a result of the restrictions on public gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"It became increasingly apparent we could not safely host the banquet this summer, whether the restrictions were in place or not," said Winterhawks President Gord Lamont. "We could not live with risking the health of our players or fans."

As a result, the team is releasing its 2019/20 team award winners.

Blake Underwood takes home the Leading Scorer Award for the third time in his career after recording 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points in 20 games.

Underwood also captured his fourth career Regular Season MVP award in the process.

Goaltender Jeff Flagler was named the team's most valuable player of the playoffs, recording two wins and a shutout in the playoff series with Tillsonburg, despite battling through a leg injury for the entire series.

Captain Trevor Smith was named the team's top defenceman for the second-consecutive season, as well as the winner of the Corry Solomway Memorial Award, which recognizes perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to the game.

The Winterhawks thank all of the fans and sponsors for their support during the 2019/20 season, as well as the players and coaching staff for their dedication to their craft.

Planning for the 2020/21 W.O.A.A. Sr. "AA" Hockey League season is underway, however, Lamont noted there's little clarity on the season just yet.

"We're keeping an eye on public health directives from the provincial government, as well as the W.O.A.A., but we're planning on going ahead as usual with the regular season this fall," said Lamont. "We will adapt as necessary once we have better idea of how things might look in October."
