MacLean Scores Twice Shorthanded in Win over Lucknow
Miles MacLean had two shorthanded goals and added an assist as the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks took a 5-2 victory over the Lucknow Lancers on Saturday night.

Chad Jones opened the scoring at the 14-minute mark of the opening frame, with MacLean and Brock Pinnell adding assists.

The Lancers had plenty of power play opportunities on this night and MacLean converted his first shorthanded goal at 17:16 of the first, with assists to Jones and Jay Thomson.

The Winterhawks found themselves in more penalty trouble in the second, but it was MacLean making it a 3-0 lead shorthanded at 6:33, with Jones assisting as both players picked up their third point of the night.

Lucknow got one back during a rare stretch of five-on-five play, as Mack O'Keefe beat Winterhawks netminder Eric Peicheff to make it 3-1.

All told, Lucknow picked up six consecutive power plays before the Winterhawks had their first chance with the extra attacker late in the second period.

Lucknow picked up two more power play opportunities early in the third period, but again couldn't convert until play returned to five-on-five, as Jesse McIntyre made it a 3-2 game with just over 12 minutes to play.

The home side's momentum was short lived, thanks to a Michael Johnstone unassisted marker three minutes later to restore the two-goal lead, giving the Winterhawks a 4-2 lead.

Thomson capped off the scoring from Johnstone and Andy Mitchell 12:50 of the third to give the Winterhawks the 5-2 victory.

Peicheff picked up the win in goal as the Winterhawks improved to 8-4-1 on the season, but will have a tough test as they return home for a Sunday afternoon affair.

They will be hosting the reigning champions Clinton Radars [7-4-0] at 3:30 p.m. at The Plex, with the Grey Cup on the TV's in the Hawks Nest after the game.
