Winterhawks Advance to Semi-Finals
Miles MacLean had a three point night as the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks advanced past the Creemore Coyotes.

The Winterhawks jumped out early and never looked back, taking a 4-1 victory in front of a jam-packed crowd at the Southampton Coliseum on Sunday evening.

It was a close-checking affair early on as neither team wanted to give up the opening goal, but the Winterhawks gained some momentum off an early penalty kill.

Immediately after killing off a double-minor, MacLean stepped over the boards and picked up a pass, carrying it into the Creemore zone and firing a shot top corner on Coyotes netminder Tyler Brindle to make it 1-0 at 14:06. Lauchlin Elder and Chad Jones assisted on the opening goal.

The Winterhawks picked up a power play late in the period and capitalized. MacLean worked the puck back to Josh Deyell at the point, who fired a wrist shot that was deflected in front by Trent Hawke to make it 2-0 with 12-seconds left in the period.

Two quick strikes in the second period gave the Winterhawks some insurance.

Luke Pither returned to the lineup on Sunday afternoon and made it a 3-0 game just past the midway point of the second period.

MacLean broke into the Creemore zone and fired a pass across to Pither, who fired a laser beam into the top corner.

24-seconds later, it was Andy Mitchell who made it 4-0 when he cleaned up a rebound at the side of the Creemore net, with assists to Jay Thomson and Jones.

Tasting the victory that slipped away the previous night, the Winterhawks locked things down from there and never gave Creemore a chance.

The Coyotes managed to add one midway through the third period, but the outcome never felt in doubt as the Winterhawks claimed the 4-1 victory to take the series in six games.

MacLean was named the Elgin Jewellers Player of the Game with a goal and two assists. Jeff Flagler made 33 saves in the Winterhawks net for the win.

The Winterhawks now advance to the WOAA Sr. "AA" semi-finals and will battle for Bruce County supremacy against the Ripley Wolves.

The series will begin next weekend, a full series schedule will be released early in the week.
